Religious Education
Intent
At Devoran School our intention is to provide a stimulating RE curriculum which will enable our children to be resilient, mindful, inquisitive learners who demonstrate good self-awareness and a respect for others. We aim to provide a curriculum which builds upon prior knowledge and will give our children a good understanding of different religious beliefs. We feel strongly that every pupil has an entitlement to religious education. Our broad provision explores a range of religious and non-religious world views.
We adhere to the Cornwall locally agreed syllabus which can be found here and follow the principle aim of religious education which is to explore what people believe and what difference this makes to how they live, so that pupils gain the knowledge, understanding and skills needed to handle question raised by religion and belief, reflecting on their own ideas and ways of living.
Right to withdrawal from RE
Parents have the right to withdraw their children from RE lessons or any part of the RE curriculum. In this event, and after discussion with the RE lead, teachers will supervise although not provide additional teaching. Where the pupil has been withdrawn, the law provides alternative arrangements to be made for RE of the kind the parents want pupils to receive. These arrangements will be made by the parents; the school is not expected to make these arrangements.

Implementation
Through using the Cornwall Agreed Syllabus, teachers will ensure that our children encounter core concepts in religion and belief in a coherent way, developing their understanding and their ability to handle questions of religion and belief.
Each unit of learning is underpinned by three core elements: making sense of belief, understanding the impact and making connections.
